Minutes of the Vestry

December 10, 2012

 

A regular meeting of the Vestry of St. Andrew’s Church was called to order by Father Chandy at 7:33   p.m. following prayer led by Father Chandy.

 

Present:  Father Chandy, Warden:  Brian Faniro, Warden:  Patricia Jackson

Vestrypersons:   Christopher Miller/2013, Richard Murphy, 1st term/2013, Cynthia Regn, 1st term/2013, Sharon Carr, 2nd term/2014, Mark Miller, 2nd term/2014, Walt Tafe, 1st term/2014, Keith Adams, 1st term/2015, Robert Fisher, 1st term/2015, Beth Parker, 1st term/2015.

Church Treasurer:  John Powell

 

Guest/Parishioner Attendance:  Deacon Carl Dunn

 

Minutes:  The Minutes of the regular Vestry meeting held on November 12, 2012 were sent electronically on December 3, 2012.  Keith Adams motioned to approve the Minutes, seconded by Christopher Miller.  Motion carried with one abstention.

 

Finance/Treasurer’s Report:  Pledges continue to come in regularly.  No transfer of investment principal is needed at this time.  Clergy Supply budgeting for 2013 needs improving as well as close monitoring of the Parish Administrator’s hours.  The organist and utilities are running under budget.   A payment of $4400 has been sent toward our Diocesan Fair Share.  Nicodemus donated $431.75 for repairs to the heating system.   Patricia Jackson motioned to evenly redistribute $810.02 from the Paul Fund between the ECW and the graveyard.  Richard Murphy seconded, and the motion carried.  A total of $102 in the Shaw Fund will be used for purchasing replacement flags in the church.

       Keith Adams motioned, seconded by Cynthia Regn, to gift $100 each to Kris Carroll, Thad Roper, and Lee Brown for Christmas.  Motion carried.

       Keith Adams motioned to accept the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Cynthia Regn.  Motion carried.  (A copy of the report is attached to the original Minutes.)

 

Nominating Committee:  Members of the committee are Charles Miller, Steve Martin, Beth Parker, Brian Faniro, and Penny Worrell-Sapp.  Nominations are needed for a minimum of 3 for Warden, 6 for Vestry, 5 Delegates to Convocation, and 3 Delegates to Convention.

 

Stewardship:  Mark Miller reported the monies pledged to date for 2013 total about $185,000.  The anticipated pledge is $187,000.

 

Group 6:  Christopher Miller reviewed previously suggested changes to the Proposed Organizational Structure plan.  Mark Miller reviewed the Paperwork Flow guidelines.  Both documents will be presented to the congregation at the Annual Meeting on January 27, 2013.

 

Personnel Committee:  Keith Adams distributed copies of the job description for the Director of Music and Edmund Robertson’s Employment Contract.  Both have been reviewed with Mr. Robertson.  A motion to approve both documents was made by Mark Miller and seconded by Keith Adams.  Motion carried.

 

Calendar:  Upcoming events were detailed.  Walt Tafe motioned to approve a facility use application from the Friends of Bill W. for a Sober Dance to be held on February 16, 2013.  Cynthia Regn seconded, and the motion was carried.

 

Warden’s Report:  Patricia Jackson motioned to approve a resolution for Father Chandy’s Parsonage Allowance for 2013.  Cynthia Regn seconded, and the motion carried.

       Patricia Jackson reported the success of the new Coffee Hour procedures.  Breakfast with Santa was well attended and many men helped with the food.

 

Rector’s Report:  Services on Christmas Eve will be at 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.  A service of Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Christmas Day. 

       Announcers and button checkers are needed for First Night.  Activities at St. Andrew’s include an opera singer, a storyteller, and a light show. 

       The Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 following one service at 9:00 a.m.  A Vestry Retreat is scheduled for February 23, 2013.  Father Chandy praised Deacon Carl Dunn for his efforts.  The response has been positive with the congregation and the Men’s Club.

       Christopher Miller remarked on the wonderful Thanksgiving Day Service celebrated by The Reverend David Snyder.

 

Old Business:  Robert Fisher has spoken to Police Chief Steve Martin about building security.  Chief Martin will review the situation and make some recommendations.

       Brian Faniro will contact John Powell about getting the debit card for the Parish Administrator.

 

New Business:  None.

 

Good and Welfare:  Vestrypersons shared positive ways the Good News is passed on through St. Andrew’s.

Father Chandy closed with prayer and adjourned the meeting at 8:55 p.m.
